We're excited to see Wesley sports back in action! Football and Volleyball have kicked-off for the 2021 season. "The students and coaches were excited and anxious to be on the field for football and in the gym for volleyball," said Wesley Athletic Director Coach Horton.
Tryouts were intense with more participants than in previous years. Horton said parents, coaches, and students were equally excited to be back. "You don't know how much you miss each other or something until you have to do without it," she said. She is particularly excited to see students enhance their skills, hone their techniques, and just have fun this year.
Thirty-two football players and sixteen volleyball players from MPY (6th through 8th grades) were added to this year's roster. The numbers are higher than usual, and Horton says, "We wanted to extend the offer to a few more players after missing out on a full season of athletics last school year."
The season kicks off this week with the first official volleyball game on September 11 at Wesley and the first league football game on September 17 at Maynard Jackson. At this time, spectators are allowed, and we will keep fans posted if any changes occur. Keep an eye out on the Wesley Weekly and ClassDojo for game schedules. We look forward to the support we know we'll receive from our Wesley Family. Go Wesley Phoenix!
