Quick Guide to Back-to-School 2022-23

Quick Guide to Back-to-School 2022-23

One School Under One Roof

Wesley families, welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! Although the pandemic is not completely behind us, we look forward to getting back to business. While the health and safety of our staff and our students remains top priority, this year we will continue to be focused on teaching and learning. We're so excited to move into a new era here at Wesley. A lot of exciting things will be happening this year!

Our school will be led this year by one of our schools most tenured leaders, Ms. Rachel Goodman. Ms. Goodman has been at Wesley from the very beginning and has led in both MYP/PYP programs over the last several years. This year she will bring our two schools together as ONE as the K-8 Principal. Learn more about Ms. Goodman and the exciting days ahead at Wesley. We are eager to provide greater opportunities for personal and academic growth as well as new ways to forge community with one another. We trust that our students will learn—from their teachers, staff, and one another—how to become the next generation of global ambassadors, armed with the determination and passion to change society.

The past few years have been evidence that in the midst of so many challenges in the world around us and here at the school, the Wesley Phoenix will always rise! We are a network of parents, students, staff, and community members working together in pursuit of academic excellence and growth of the whole child. We look forward to seeing all of you August 1 and to a wonderful school year ahead!

Wesley Welcome Days

We're kicking off the year with our annual Wesley Welcome Day on Thursday, July 28. Come meet your child’s teacher, pick up carpool information, fill out required forms, and more. Masks are recommended. Please make sure you remain physically distanced.
Please note that parking will be extremely limited during Wesley Welcome Day. Please be respectful of our neighbors and do not block driveways, double park, etc. Everyone will enter the Wesley gym through the back door by the teacher parking lot.
To keep the day running smoothly, we have different windows by grade level. Please plan on coming to Wesley at the following times on July 28:

Prestige will be the only uniform vendor on-site during Wesley Welcome Day. Items from Flynn O’Hara can still be purchased online. Wesley's PTSA will also be selling uniform-approved items, including the new patches, at the school store. Note: The PTSA will not be able to adhere the new patches to uniform items.

As a reminder, if you have not completed re-enrollment for the 2022-23 school year, your child will not be able to start on August 1. Please see Donica Johnson or Rickeela Hudson with questions or concerns.

Show Your School Spirit by Supporting Wesley's Red Thread Fund!

Make sure you stop by the Red Thread Fund table to learn how the Red Thread Fund supports and nurtures the Wesley community and the school's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Red Thread Fund was created to bridge the gap between state funding and what it costs to deliver an outstanding education for Wesley's students.

Show your school spirit by joining the Red Thread Fund to support your child and the greater Wesley community! All donors who give on Wesley Welcome Day will be entered into a drawing for a Wesley Pride Pack (the winner will be announced the first week of school). Want to cross this off your to-do list, or are you unable to attend Wesley Welcome Day? We've got your back - you can donate right here NOWAs a 501(c)(3) school, all donations to the Red Thread Fund are 100% tax-deductible.

Carpool: Dismissal

We are preparing for the new school year and wanted to send you some information (reminders for returning families) about our dismissal platform. We will continue to use the PikMyKid Dismissal Application for the 2022-23 school year. The unique features of PikMyKid allow you, as parents, to be in control of your child’s dismissal and it gives us, the school, information regarding dismissal.

Whether you have an Android phone or an iPhone, visit the appropriate app store and download the PikMyKid app. Once downloaded, the process is very simple. You will verify your contact information and set up a password. As the Primary Parent, you can delegate alternate individuals, but they should have the App also as it will send a matching number to the phone for us to validate the correct person is picking up the proper child.

If you are a returning Wesley parent and already have the app downloaded, you do not need to download the app again. Just simply log in to confirm that your information is correct.

Next Monday, August 1 we will begin using PikMyKid.
Here is the process:

  • Place the PikMyKid Car Tag in your front window.
  • When you approach the school, you will “announce” your presence through the PikMyKid app. As you drive through the carpool lane (or wait in the walker area), a Wesley staff member will confirm your arrival online. Your child’s name & number will appear on the screen in your child’s classroom.
  • Once the number appears, teachers will release students to transition to exit the building on Connally Street.
  • Once your vehicle is identified, a Wesley staff member will escort your child to the car. Please be patient!

Parents will receive a carpool tag during Wesley Welcome Day on July 28. If you are unable to attend Wesley Welcome Day, please request your number virtually by completing the online request formAs a reminder, each child in your household will receive a different carpool tag and number. You must complete a separate form for each child. After completing the form, we will email your carpool tag to you directly.

For more information about PikMyKid, please view the user guide. Questions or concerns? Contact Donica Johnson.

Carpool Procedures

You can review all the pertinent carpool information in the Wesley family portal on the website and see the process through this short video. You'll get a lot of helpful information on how to use the App in the easy-to-use Parent App User Guide!

Uniforms for 2022-23

As you prepare to return to Wesley on August 1, please see the uniform guidelines for the 2022-23 school year. We have some exciting changes coming for the 2022-23 school year! As you prepare to return to Wesley on August 1, please note the uniform guidelines and new vendor information. Items from Flynn O’Hara can still be purchased online or in-store.

Clarification: PYP students can still wear the red polos (with the old patch) during the transition year. However, PYP students are not permitted to wear gray polos with the old patch. These are for MYP only. The only gray shirts permitted for PYP students during the transition year are ones from the new vendor (new patch).

Wesley's PTSA will sell uniform-approved items, including the new patches, at the school store. Note: The PTSA will not be able to adhere new patches to uniform items.

2022-23 Meal Program

Please note the changes to the meal program this year. Each household must complete and submit an online lunch application.

2022-23 Breakfast & Lunch Information

This year, breakfast and lunch meals will NOT be free of charge for families. This means that each household must complete and submit an online lunch application. All families that qualify for free and reduced lunch based on income will be notified by the district. Those who do not will be required to pay full price for meals.

Students are expected to pay the full price for meals until the free and reduced meal application has been processed. The eligibility status is sent to parents and the school. Students in a paying meal status who have insufficient funds for meal payment will be allowed to incur and accumulate a charge balance.

In the event that student school meal accounts become delinquent, the district will continue to make school meals available to students unless the parents have consented in writing to withholding meals and/or the delinquency has reached a predetermined amount set by the district or school. Parents must pay the total balance in full before the end of the school year.

Each family should fill out an application, even if you know you don't qualify. Not only does it determine a family's eligibility status, but it also helps Wesley receive funding for resources.

Pricing Information

  • Full Pay: $1.50
  • Reduced Pay: $0.30

  • Full Pay: $3.00
  • Reduced Pay: $0.40

APS Nutrition provides a convenient meal payment method:

Families paying for meals will need to submit payment through the MySchoolBucks online payment system. Schools will not be collecting money for school meals.

Online Prepayment System

Log onto MySchoolBucks, and the parent can register the child. The parent will need the child’s name school and APS student ID number, which can be obtained from the main office of the school.

View more information about the meal program in the Atlanta Public Schools flyers about schools participating in the FEA application process and meal prices.

Questions? Contact Donica Johnson or reach out to the APS Nutrition Department.
