We can't wait to see you back at school on August 3! There is already staff on campus, preparing for our boys and girls to return for the 2021-22 school year, and excitement is in the air! As we transition back more closely to normal after last year, we know there will be a continued need for flexibility and patience. Thank you in advance for working with us to return to school. We are waiting on additional guidance from APS (Atlanta Public Schools) regarding health and safety protocols for this year. You can expect an upcoming FAQ document with more detailed information about what to expect coming soon.
In the meantime, check out the important information below. We're counting down the days!
Download this list of some important dates to go ahead and mark on your calendar for the first semester. Keep an eye out on the Wesley family calendar (information below about accessing this on the website) and the upcoming Wesley Weekly emails for information about these events.
Masks Required for Start of School
Wesley will require all students, teachers, and visitors to the building to wear masks at the start of school. We do have Wesley masks if you're interested! They are available in our school store.
Wesley Welcome Days
We're kicking off the year with our annual Wesley Welcome Day, but this year on two dates. Welcome Days will be Thursday, July 29 and Friday, July 30. This schedule will add more flexibility for families and ensure everyone’s safety. Come meet your child’s teacher, pick up carpool information, fill out required forms, and more. Parents do not need to attend both days.
Masks will be required. If you do not arrive with one, you will be offered one at the door. (Please note this is a change from previous communications.) Please make sure you remain physically distanced.
Please note that parking will be extremely limited during Wesley Welcome Days. Please be respectful of our neighbors and do not block driveways, double park, etc. Everyone will enter the Wesley gym through the back door by the teacher parking lot.
To keep the day running smoothly, we have different windows by grade level. Please plan on coming to Wesley at the following times on July 29 OR July 30:
- 8:00am – 8:45am → Kindergarten
- 9:15am – 10:00am → First Grade
- 10:30am – 11:15am → Second Grade
- 11:45am – 12:30pm → Third Grade
- 1:00pm – 1:45pm → Fourth Grade
- 2:15pm – 3:00pm → Fifth Grade
- 3:15pm – 4:00pm → Sixth Grade
- 4:15pm – 5:00pm → Seventh Grade
- 5:15pm – 6:00pm → Eighth Grade
Our uniform vendor will be present on Wesley Welcome Days, and Wesley's PTSA will be selling uniform-approved items.
First Day of School: Tuesday, August 3
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced the extension of the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) waiver throughout the 2021-2022 school year. This will allow APS to offer FREE meals to all schools throughout the district without requiring parents to complete the household free and reduced meal eligibility application. This applies to Wesley students as well.
Beginning Wednesday, August 11, AVA students and non-APS community children (ages 1-18) are welcome to receive FREE 5-day meal kits from one of the four curbside pick-up locations listed below from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm:
Please note that there will be changes to the arrival and dismissal procedures this year. In our ongoing efforts to enhance your children’s safety, we have decided to begin using the PikMyKid Dismissal Application. The unique features of PikMyKid allow you, as parents, to be in control of your child’s dismissal and it gives us, the school, information regarding dismissal. We are very excited about this addition and know you will be too.
You can review all the pertinent carpool information in the Wesley family portal on the website and see the process through this short video. You'll get a lot of helpful information on how to use the App in the easy-to-use Parent App User Guide!
School Supply Lists
It's time to get those backpacks filled and ready for the new year! Download the list of supplies needed for each grade. Please note that Wesley agendas will not be ordered this school year.
Aftercare Full (Get on the Waitinglist)
Parents, we had a great response to our aftercare survey! We have reached our space limit at this point. Everyone else that expresses interest at this point will be placed on a waitlist. You can let us know of your interest by filling out the online survey. We will extend offers to families from the waitlist once space becomes available. Thank you.
Summer Reading Due Aug 3
We hope you’ve been enjoying summer reading. This is our sixth summer of reading and we are striving for 100% participation. You still have time to complete those books! Your summer reading record, including a parent signature, should be returned to your child’s homeroom teacher on the first day of school. Brush up on the details of summer reading here.
