An International Baccalaureate World Programme School

Green & Healthy

Wesley PTSA Green and Healthy Committee is continuing to focus on our school community’s health and nutrition.

Our garden will continue to be used in conjunction with classes to support students’ experiences and align with classroom curriculum. Classes will sign up with the gardener-in-residence on a weekly basis. The courtyard garden outside the cafeteria contains the following:

  • edibles
  • a sustainable water catchment system
  • flowering trees
  • shrubs and perennials
  • an outdoor classroom
  • a smoothie bike
  • and *coming soon* vertical pallet gardens and student artwork.

Development of a new garden outside the ‘cottages’ by the parking lot has begun. This new area is focused on creating a garden that is more pollinator and native plant friendly. It will expand our edibles garden with raised beds, flowering plants, and fruit bushes, and trees.

The Health & Nutrition Subcommittee will focus on initiatives that bring the garden to the table, help our school strive for healthy food offerings in the building, and help us keep active.

Interested in helping with work days, teaching a lesson, volunteering in the garden, enlisting donations, grant writing, cooking demos, food tastings, launching a fun school-wide physical challenge, and more fun activities? Please contact Kellie Maxwell.

The Green & Healthy committee of the PTSA will be publishing a Wesley Cookbook as a fundraiser for the health & nutrition subcommittee for 2016-2017. We are accepting submissions throughout the summer and through September 2016. We are hoping to have participating from returning families and new families and staff in our Wesley community. See more details here and please submit recipes online here.
