Job Description for School Principal
Wesley International Academy (WIA) http://wesleyacademy.org/ seeks a dynamic and energetic Principal to lead our K-8 charter school into its sixth year. The Principal will be the educational leader and chief administrator, responsible for leading the school to achieve its mission and charter. The Principal will also serve as an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors and act as a liaison between the board and the school staff.
The mission of WIA is to inspire students, teachers, and the community to collaborate and develop strong critical thinking, interpersonal, and academic skills in our students. WIA offers the accessibility of a public school with the organizational and curricular innovation of an International Baccalaureate charter school model. WIA is a Title I school and reflects the diversity of the community for which it serves. In each single-gender class, students develop a strong sense of our world community, personal responsibility, and respect for the impact of their decisions and actions on others. WIA also engages all of its students in a Mandarin Chinese program. These skills inspire all of our students with the confidence to succeed in education, but also prepare them to identify and manage problems at the local and global level.

Qualifications:
- Minimum Masters Degree; Education or Educational Administration preferred
- Minimum 5 years teaching experience
- Minimum 2 years experience in instructional leadership
- Teaching and/or leadership under the International Baccalaureate framework strongly preferred
- Appropriate licensures, certificates or endorsements
- Knowledge of the laws, rules, procedures, and programs specifically related to the operation of charter schools
- Knowledge of various instruction and teaching methodologies
- Excellent organizational, planning, implementation and communication skills
- Experience with single-gender education and/or language programs
Responsibilities and Competencies: The Principal will be responsible for:
- Executing WIA’s mission and charter
- Leading curriculum development, assessment, and instruction in line with the WIA’s International Baccalaureate program
- Managing day-to-day operations of the school
- Selecting and hiring school staff (teachers and school support staff)
- Observing instruction of all teachers and assistants regularly, coaching and evaluating staff to ensure quality instruction and student achievement
- Developing budgets and implementing proper financial controls with the support of a Business Manager
- Engaging and involving parents; Interpreting the mission of the school to the community through direct involvement and public relations initiatives
- Assisting in fund development efforts; supporting fundraising and development plans
- Assuring implementation of policies and assisting the Board in analyzing policy options; risk management
- Participating with the school's Board of Directors as an ex-officio member to advise and make recommendations on issues of school governance; working closely with the Board for an effective division of labor
