While The Wesley House provides services to the community year round, the flagship activity of organization is the ACADEMIC Summer Academy. This learning-centered program has been shown to improve both attitude toward schoolwork and performance in independent research by the Gallup organization.
The Summer Academy stresses math, reading, geography and public speaking. In addition, off-site trips allow the students to experience and observe academics in action in a variety of community and business organizations. Recent destinations have included Offutt Air Force Base home of the U.S. Strategic Command, the UNO planetarium and the Union Pacific Railroad corporate headquarters.
