History

The Beginning

Wesley’s history began in 2006 with a small group of committed community members focused in on the goal of bringing a new high-quality choice in public elementary and middle school education, south of I-20, to the Atlanta city community.


Recent Timeline

The following is a timeline of our largest milestones achieved to date:

January 2012 – Wesley International Academy separates from Imagine Schools and files for non-profit status.

May 2012 – Duke Bradley, III is hired as principal by the Wesley International Academy Governing Board.

August 2012 – Wesley International Academy starts school as an independent, APS charter school.

September 2012 – Wesley International Academy becomes a fully-authorized International Baccalaureate School confirmed by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO).

December 2012 – Wesley International Academy is recommended by the Atlanta Public School (APS) Board for a 5-year charter renewal.

January 2013 – Wesley International Academy officially receives its non-profit status.

February 2013 – Wesley International Academy is approved by the Georgia Department of Education for a 5-year charter renewal.

August 2013 – Wesley International Academy begins its second 5-year charter term in the Ed S. Cook Elementary School building.
