The annual Atlanta Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival is Georgia’s biggest Hong Kong cultural event of the year. Thousands of competitors and spectators join to cheer their favorite teams, witness cultural events during the opening ceremonies, and indulge in cuisine from around the world.
Racing is done in a slim, 39-foot teakwood or fiberglass Dragon Boat. The sport itself is said to around 2,000 years old.
Wesley participated in the 25th annual race on September 7, 2019. Chinese Department Chair Mr. Chung said, “The Dragon Boat Dress Down Day and the races on Saturday was a success. I could not have done it without your support. Also, I want to send a special thank you to my team members who demonstrated competitiveness, good fellowship and commitment from the beginning to the end. You are my super stars!!! In one heat Wesley racers came in second place at a time of 1:13.560. Later in the day, the team clocked in at 1:15.315 for third place. In the final race of the day, Team Wesley placed fourth at 1:16.126. You can see all the race results here.
