An International Baccalaureate World Programme School

Our second graders learned have been learning about economics, combining math, civics, and social studies. The unit studying business and trade culminated in a grade-wise marketplace. Students earned points for good behavior all throughout the unit. They stored those points in a bank in deposits.

At the marketplace, they were then able to spend those points to buy goods like popcorn and cookies. After each purchase, students calculated how many points they had left to spend. We loved this opportunity for students to practice budgeting and entrepreneurship along with their regular arithmetic!
